Azam FC have continued strengthening their squad ahead of the 2026/27 season after completing the signing of SC Villa winger Hassan Mubiru from Uganda, who is regarded as one of the country’s fastest-rising talents.
Mubiru, 21, joins the “Wanalambalamba” after an impressive season with SC Villa, where he stood out for his pace, dribbling ability, and creativity in creating scoring opportunities.
According to reports from Uganda, Azam FC have handed the player a two-year contract after beating competition from several East African clubs that were also interested in securing his services.
Strong Season at SC Villa
During the recently concluded season, Mubiru was a key player for SC Villa, contributing both goals and assists that helped the club perform well in the Ugandan Premier League.
He scored six goals and registered seven assists in the league, while also winning five Man of the Match awards due to his consistent high-level performances.
In addition to playing as a right winger, Mubiru is also capable of operating on the left wing, as a number 10, or even as a central striker, making him a versatile attacking option for Azam FC head coach Florent Ibenge.
Uganda International
Mubiru is among the young players gradually being introduced into the Uganda Cranes national team setup and is widely viewed as one of the prospects expected to play a key role for the national team in the coming years. He was also part of the Uganda squad that won the CECAFA U-17 Championship in 2019.
This signing forms part of Azam FC’s strategy to strengthen their attacking department ahead of the new Tanzania Mainland Premier League season and continental competitions.
