Tanzania’s representatives in the CAF Confederation Cup, Singida Black Stars, have made their mark in African football after securing a historic and emphatic 7-1 away victory over South Sudan’s Al Ghazala SC Wau.
In the first-leg preliminary-round encounter played yesterday, September 6, 2026, Singida Black Stars produced an outstanding performance, dominating from the opening minute and delivering a heavy blow to their opponents on home soil.
The star of the match was striker Mathew Tegisi, who set the tone by scoring an early first-half hat-trick.
Tegisi opened the scoring in the 20th minute before adding two more goals in the 23rd and 32nd minutes.
Attacking midfielder Sheikhan Ibrahim completed Singida’s first-half goal feast by scoring the fourth goal in the 41st minute, sending the teams into the break with Singida leading 4-0.
The second half began at a high tempo as hosts Al Ghazala attempted to make changes that eventually helped them pull one goal back through Mohammed Zakariya in the 70th minute.
However, the goal did little to discourage the Singida giants, who responded by adding three more goals. Jonathan Sowah scored in the 63rd and 90th minutes, while Henry David added another in the 86th minute to complete the seven-goal haul.
The 7-1 victory puts Singida Black Stars in a strong position to reach the next round, with the return leg expected to be played in Tanzania between September 11 and 13, 2026.
If Singida BS advance, they will face the winner between Sudan’s Al Ahli Madani and Kenya’s Tusker FC in the second qualifying round for the group stage.
