Tanzania women’s national team international Clara Luvanga has made history in women’s football after completing her transfer from Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr to Washington Spirit in the United States.
Luvanga has signed a four-year contract that will keep her at Washington Spirit until 2029, in a deal reportedly worth approximately $2.3 million (more than Tsh 6 billion).
The fee is reported to be the highest transfer fee ever paid for a women’s football player, placing Luvanga on a new page in the history of women’s football worldwide.
A New Record for Tanzania
The transfer also gives Luvanga the distinction of becoming the first Tanzanian player in the history of the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) in the United States.
The move marks a major achievement for Luvanga personally and for Tanzania as a whole, further putting the country on the global women’s football map.
Luvanga’s journey has been an impressive one, beginning with Yanga Princess before progressing to football in Spain, then joining Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia and now making the move to the United States.
