Tanzania’s Minister for Information, Culture, Arts and Sports, Paul Makonda, has revealed that FC Barcelona’s management has promised to bring some of the club’s players to Tanzania if they win the title this season.
Makonda made the remarks on September 24, 2026, while speaking about his four-day visit to Spain and the discussions he held with Barcelona’s management and players. The visit also included talks on potential cooperation in football development, including talent development and technical training.
During the visit, Makonda met several Barcelona stars, including Lamine Yamal, Pedri, Raphinha and Gavi, and invited them to visit Tanzania. According to The Citizen, the discussions also focused on identifying areas of cooperation between Tanzania and Barcelona in the development of football.
The promise comes as Tanzania continues preparations to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Kenya and Uganda, with the Government exploring opportunities to use relationships with major global football institutions to nurture talent and strengthen football development in the country.
