Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB) Chief Executive Cornel Barnabas has revealed that preparations for the NBC Premier League match between Simba and Yanga on October 10 include new security measures, including the use of a specialised device to detect odours in the teams’ dressing rooms.
Cornel said the device will be used during the Kariakoo Derby as part of measures being implemented to ensure a safe match environment and compliance with the required procedures.
Speaking to journalists at the TFF Headquarters in Dar es Salaam, Cornel said the device will not be used exclusively for the Kariakoo Derby, but will also be deployed at other Mainland Premier League matches.
The measure follows long-standing complaints surrounding these matches, with Yanga in particular having on several occasions refused to enter the dressing rooms over fears that substances intended to weaken players could have been placed inside.
FVS to Be Used as TFF Sets Conditions
In another development, Cornel said the coaches of Simba and Yanga will each be given two cards during the match, which will be used to request reviews of incidents through the FIFA Video Support (FVS) system.
Cornel said the procedure is part of new technological measures being introduced in the management of Mainland Premier League matches, giving coaches the opportunity to request reviews of incidents they believe require further examination.
"There will be four cards available during the match for requesting the use of FVS. Each bench will be given two cards. When an incident occurs and a bench needs FVS assistance to ensure a fair decision is made, they will raise the card and the referee will go to the FVS. The condition is that the bench must raise its card within 60 seconds; it cannot wait until the incident has passed," he said.
Cornel said the system will not be used exclusively in the Kariakoo Derby, as the cards will also be used in other Mainland Premier League matches.
